Show "Naturally Yours" Persimmon By B. FRANCIS KLEIN Copley News Service Naturally yours. The PERSIMMON. A dainty delicate dessert fruit, persimmons originated originat-ed in Japan. You'll find them ready and ripe, from September through mid-December in your market. These are really beautiful fruits to look at, as well as to eat. They range in color from rosy orange to salmon pink and even yellow. They're about the size of a beefsteak tomato, and the fruit has about the same texture as a tomato. The most common use of the persimmon is as a dessert des-sert fruit. Eat it right out of the skin. Sprinkle it with a dab of sugar, if you want it to be juicier. It's not easy to can persimmons per-simmons though you can keep them in your freezer for later use. Some persimmon persim-mon lovers dry them and use them at some future date, by cooking the dried persimmon and pulping for preserves or jelly. The persimmon naturally natu-rally yours. .. |
