Show ' Mainly For Seniors Playing with fire no laughing matter By JOHN T. WATTS Copley News Service Dear John: My 4-year-old grandson has just gone home after his annual summer sum-mer visit. We are always glad to have him, but this time he really gave us a scare. I caught him out in the back yard playing with matches. I scolded him, of course, but I didn't feel I could really punish him so that he would be sure to realize the seriousness seri-ousness of this stunt. I have seen so many stories sto-ries in the papers about fires started by children playing with matches. When his mother came to pick him up I told her about it and she only laughed. She said he was just going through a phase and would get over It. This was typical of my daughter-in-law, never taking anything seriously. seri-ously. What could I do? A. You could certainly keep all the matches away from him the next time he visits. I gather that the mother wouldn't appreciate you giving the boy a good whacking. Here is what one mother did when she caught her young son in a similar activity. activ-ity. She got a full box of matches, sat him down in a safe place and said, "All right, you want to play with matches, go ahead, light every one of them in this box, and don't stop until you are all done." She said afterward the boy got so sick of lighting matches that he never again touched one. Naturally she stayed by and supervised the exercise. . It's probably been a year since I sent for one. I have several nice lady Pen Pals now, but would like one or two male Pen Pale If you could give me the names of several that have written In recently, maybe I could find one that would like to write. I am a widow and 73 years old. I like to hear from people all over the country, but would like some male Pen Pals from Pennsylvania, Pennsylva-nia, Ohio, Indiana or New York or Canada. 1 think the Pen Pal list is such a good Idea, and a nice way to make some really good friends. H.N. P.S. I would like some Pen Pals around my own age, if they give their age in writing to you. Dear H.N.: Your list is on its way. While there are names from all over the country, they are not categorized, and we do not give persons' ages on such lists. Incidentally, some readers read-ers writing for Pen Pal lists still do not enclose stamped, self-addressed envelopes. Some even have stated that envelope is enclosed, then forgot to include it. Due to our volume of mail, stamps and envelopes cannot be provided for the lists. Miriam Miri-am please note. Dear John: I read your column the other day. The ladies at St are not seniors.
