Show Don Mabey Honored As Geologist Don R. Mabey, a U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist in Salt Lake City, was presented the Interior Department's highest honor the Distinguished Distin-guished Service Award Tuesday, Nov. 13, 1979 in Washington, D.C., by Interior Secretary Cecil D. Andrus. MABEY, WHO grew up near Soda Springs, Ida., was honored for "his outstanding contributions to solid-earth geophysics and the exceptional excep-tional leadership he has provided scientific research programs of the U.S. Geological Survey." The citation for his award said Mabey has "supervised pioneering airborne and ground geophysical projects aimed at assessments of mineral and energy resources and geologic hazards. "HIS internationally recognized recog-nized application of diverse geophysical techniques for detecting hidden geologic structures in the western United States has contributed significantly to much improved appraisals of terrains now known to have high mineral and geothermal potential," the citation added. "His compehensive geophysical analyses of domestic and international geothermal resource areas are standards of worldwide acceptance and his evaluation of geophysical data have led to the development of new criteria for defining geothermal geother-mal systems," it said.
