Show Interim Reinstatement M Favored FARM1NGTON - The Davis County Library Board chairman said he would not favor returning Jeanne Lay-ton Lay-ton to her former directorship on an interim basis. EVAN Whitesides, of Lay- ton, who heads the five member board that was instrumental ins-trumental in Miss Layton's firing in September said last week, "1 was one of the board members that voted to retain Miss Layton and that perhaps confuses the issue. "I think it would be unwise I would not favor the return re-turn of Miss Layton in an interim period. I think it would have to be on a permanent per-manent basis. Interim would create a great deal of unrest." SPEAKING OF the county merit council decision indicating in-dicating Miss Layton should have received merit protection protec-tion as library director at the time of her firing he con- tinued, "My position is that her position as library director direc-tor is an exempt position. 1 honor the board's decision to terminate her, I just don't approve of the way it was done." The board has initiated court action to overturn that decision. It will be heard in District Court with the date not yet set. George K. Fadel of Bountiful has been retained re-tained as legal counsel to represent the board, tb |
