Show SAFETY ZONE POSTS ARE BEFORE MAYOR Fire Chief and City's Chief Executive Will Consider the Protective Device. A sample of the posts that may be used at either corner of the safety zones to be created at the street Intersections in the business district for pedestrians awaking cars was submitted to the mayor yesterday by W. H. Bywater, chief of the fire department. It Is proposed to place one of these posts at either end of the safety zone, which will be marked off by white lines on the pavement, and to stretch a rope from post to post. Topping each post will he a circular sijrn with a red border bor-der bearing the words, "Safety First," ;ind a white center marked "Safety Zone." These posts will not be fixed permanently perma-nently to the pavement, as a menace to traffic, but will Btand on pedestals. A vehicle striking one of them would knork it over, thus furnishing evidence to the traffic policeman of a violation of traffic rules. Fire Chief By water believes autolsts would soon learn to steer clear of the post and the safety zone. |
