TO NAME QUEEN OF '47 CENTENNIAL Local Applications To Be Made With Mrs. Harlan Boyer Before October 1 The responsibility of selecting a Centennial queen and two attendants at-tendants has been given to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers camps of the state, it was announced Wednesday. The queen is to symbolize the ideal youth of this state and will be required to meet certain specifications. spec-ifications. In order to give the girls of every town a chance to enter the competition, Mrs. Hilda Cherring-ton, Cherring-ton, president of the Utah county chapter of D. U. P., announced Wednesday that girls of every city may apply to the camp captains cap-tains for an entry blank to enter the contest by October 1st, and from the county winners, a state queen and attendants will be selected. se-lected. vThe girls making application for an entry blank must meet qualifications as to appearance, height being 5 feet, six inches or over. They must have poise and grace. An entry must have speaking speak-ing ability with the quality of voice suitable for public speaking. She must "have general intelligence, intelli-gence, resourcefulness, a general education, background and information infor-mation about Utah. She must have some special talent in dancing, music or sports. The contestant must be a descendant of a Utah pioneer who came to the st ate before May 10, 1869. She must be available for public appearance through 1947. She must abstain from tobacco and alcoholic drinks and must have reached her 18th birthday by Nov. 1, 1946 and must not be older than 25 by Nov. 1, 1947. The contestant must not be married, not previously married and remain single through 1947. Be willing to submit to a general medical examination if chosen as a finalist and must be a bona-fide resident of Utah when application applica-tion is made. Mrs. Cherrington would like entries en-tries to send a photograph with the application, and all Springville Spring-ville girls are to apply to Mrs. Harlan Boyer. All applications must be in by October 1, so that entries can be judged in the county contest. |
