Show Industry Looks Forward To New Amendment Industry is becoming more and more pessimistic about the prospects pros-pects for relief under the Barkley-Taft Barkley-Taft amendment to the Price Control Con-trol Act. This amendment provides, as a minimum, average total costs for a product plus a "reasonable profit." Under the amendment, industry advisory committes have the responsibility re-sponsibility for providing OPA with the data necessary to make the adjustments. Approximately 45 committee chairmen met recently with OPA officials. After listening to the officials describe the detailed instructions in-structions regarding costs which the price control agency plans to issue, the majority of the chairmen chair-men indicated they planned no action ac-tion underthe amendment. OPA Says "Soon" The Price Control Act was signed sign-ed on July 25, but the instructions still have not been made public. OPA now says they will be ready soon. After the industry advisory committee com-mittee furnishes the data to OPA, the price control agency still has 60 days in which to act. A recent statement by Paul Porter, Por-ter, OPA administrator, furnished, in the opinion of industry, further proof that OPA intends to be legalistic legal-istic and bureaucratic in administering admini-stering the amendment. Mr. Porter's Por-ter's statement emphasized several times that the responsibility ,for furnishing cost data is put upon industry under the amendment- |
