Show Improvement Planned On City Power Lines Work To Begin As Soon As Materials Are Available; In Meantime Trees Are Being Trimmed To Improve Service In accordance with plans recently submitted to the city council by City Engineer L. E. Wiscombe, the feeder and distribution power lines in Springville will be recon- structed as rapidly as materials can be obtained. The reconstruction reconstruc-tion has become necessary on account ac-count of the ever increasing customers cus-tomers and appliance loads. The power system originally constructed construct-ed fn 1903 has become overloaded approximately 800 per cent. It is planned to construct an outdoor substation and switch rack at 10th East and 4th South on city property, to which point feeder feed-er lines will be run, reducing transformers installed and five distribution lines runouts, properly proper-ly equipped with oil circuit breakers break-ers to sectionalize the system and isolate line troubles. All distribution, distribu-tion, switching, and metering will be done at the above switching station. The construction of some rural lines will be made including portions of Hobble Creek canyon. It is also planned to pipe the old power canals to increase the output out-put of the plants as well as seepage seep-age losses and ice freezing conditions. condi-tions. Some additional automatic equipment is to be added to the power plants to bring them up to date. As rapidly as possible, secondary low voltage conditions will be corrected where they should exist on account of increasing increas-ing range and appliance loads. During the past few months many trees have been removed and trimmed near the high tension lines. Many more must be removed remov-ed and properly trimmed clear of the wires to insure a minimum of power cuts. The city engineer and other officials therefore ask cooperation co-operation in the planting of low type trees on the sidewalks and also permitting without continued complaints, the linemen to properly prop-erly trim all trees where necessary. neces-sary. It may be necessary during the above reconstruction to s have power cuts of short duration in order to make the necessary line changes with safety for the linemen. |
