Show REPAIRS MADE ON LOCAL GRADE SCHOOLS Firo Escapes Installed At Three Schools; Other Improvements Being Made Springville grade schools and the high school opened Monday, following a week's recess so that . Jjoys and girls might assist with the harvesting of crops and at the local cannery. During the time, work progressed progress-ed at rapid rate on the installation installa-tion of two fire escapes at each of the three elementary grade schools and a number of other improvements im-provements will be installed at the schools within the next few days. In a recent inspection of the buildings by Supt. Owen L. Bar-' nett, George Cheever, president of the board, and Bert Bowen, maintenance and construction supervisor, su-pervisor, together with Blaine Thorpe, chamber of commerce fire prevention committee chairman, and other citizens, needs of the schools to place them in a safe condition in regard to fires, was pointed out. A steel cabinet was ordered for the janitor's supplies at the Jefferson school, where it was also evident that sheet rock and other fire proof materials should be installed in the furnace room. This material was ordered and will be installed--within the next few days. Also doors will be made from the rooms to the fire escapes shortly. More than 1600 parents had indicated in-dicated they would not send their children to the schools until they were made safe from fires but when concrete evidence was shown and efforts made to improve the buildings, classes began on schedule. |
