Show Seismic testing continues h r t'r JA fill If " ' CEDAR CITY - Users of the Dixie National Forest, Cedar City Ranger District, should be aware of and avoid the blasting activities currently being conducted con-ducted between Wood's Ranch and Duck Creek Village in Cedar Canyon. Consolidated Georex Geophysics of Jackson, Wyom., will be using high explosives through Nov. 18 to gather seismic information in the area, according to District Ranger Rollo Brunson. Helicopters will be used to transport crews and equipment from Cedar City to the testing area. Testing consists of detonating 50 pound charges of gelled dynamite mounted in live-pound packs, on three-foot stakes, over 110 feet of line. The explosion sends shock waves into the earth. Various geologic formations reflect the-shock the-shock waves back to the surface where they are read by sensitive geophones. Data is recorded and interpreted by geophysicists to determine the location of subsurface formations which may be favorable for oil and gas development. The crews will use orange flagging, warning signs and loud air horns to alert visitors of the explosive activity. l.elii Jones and his son, Kerry, view the latest well drilled at Quichapa.
