SUSC volleyballers win championship The SU lady spikers had earned top seeding in the District 7 tourney by defeating Regis Thursday Thur-sday to capture top conference honors. Thursday the 'Birds won elated Joy Peterson, SUSC coach. SUSC walloped Regis 15-1, 15-12 and 15-9 Saturday evening to capture the district title and a spot in the western regionals. Southern Utah earned the right to face Regis for the title by defeating Western State Saturday morning. Scores in that match were 15-11, 15-6 and 15-3. 16-14, 15-8 and 15-12. Lori McCurdy and Michelle Cottle played extremely well for the lady 'Birds in all nine playoff games.. Though these two were outstanding, out-standing, the entire SUSC team played well. CEDAR CITY The Southern Utah State College volleyball team is on its way to Azuza, Calif., for Western Regional volleyball play after the Thunderbirds won the District 7 championship Saturday in Cedar City. The 'Birds averaged a phenomenal 15 plus points per game in District play and RMAC championship play Thursday against Regis. Translated, that means the T-Birds won nine games while losing none, including one 16-14 win to give the Thunderbirds the "plus" in their average. "I felt we played real well as a unit," said an |
