Show v . jrj l:K David C. Norton Norton named scout chairman CEDAR CITY - David C. Norton, Cedar City, has recently been selected to serve as the new district chairman of the Cedar Breaks District of the Utah National Parks Council, Boy Scouts of America. He will replace Bob Linford, who has served as district chairman for the past six years. Norton has been involved in-volved in the Scouting program for many years. He has served as vice-chairman vice-chairman of the Cedar Breaks District, under Ross Hilton for several years. He served as the District exploring chairman chair-man of the district and has attended two National Explorer President's Congresses in Washington, D.C. He received the Second Miler Award from the Utah National Parks Council in 1975. He is a member of the Century Club, who donates $100 or more each year to the Scouting program. He was born in Cedar City, to J. Carl and Ardith Norton. He later moved to Springville, Utah, where he was educated in the Springville school system. He attended two years at Brigham Young University, where he studies business and accounting. Norton is employed by Bradshaw Auto Parts and has been manager for 17 years and is presently the President of the Salt Lake and Southern Utah Corporations, which include eleven stores that he is responsible for. Norton has been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a deacon's quorum advisor, Young Men's president, elders quorum instructor and Sunday School teacher and has worked in the Sunday School presidency. He has been a bishop's counselor, high councilor and stake executive secretary. He was bishop of the Cedar City Tenth Ward from 1975 to 80. He is presently serving as a teacher's quorum advisor. As District Chairman of the Cedar Breaks District, he will be responsible for the entire scouting program. He will work closely with the District executive committee comm-ittee and the District executive, Dan Lynch, to insure the success of the scouting program in the Cedar Breaks District. Serving with him are four District vice-chairmen: vice-chairmen: Kent Hugh, Joseph Bishop, Rett Shakespear and LaMar Jensen." He has four program chairmen who are directly responsible for the four phases of the Scouting program: Cub Scouting, Robert Tuckett; Scouting Brooke Passey; Varsity Scouting, Don Heap; and Exploring, Sterling Church. |
