Show Symphony orchestra to present free concert CEDAR CITY - A fall concert by the Southern Utah State College Symphony Orchestra will be presented Nov. 18. The public is invited to attend the free concert which begins at 8 p.m. in theThorley Recital Hall. David Nyman, chairman of the SUSC Department of Music, is the symphony conductor. First on the program is the Overture to Ruslan and Ledmilla by Michael Glinka. This piece, Nyman said, is based on a fairy tale written by the Russian poet Aleksandr Rushkin. Next on the program is the "Reformation" from Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5, which includes Martin Luther's lamous hymn "A Mighty Fortress if Our God." It s interesting to note that Oct. :il marked the MAih anniversary of Luther's writing of 'The 95 Thesis'," Nyman said. |
