Show SUSC enrollment highest point ever CEDAR CITY - Enrollment at SUSC is the highest it has ever been, said Institutional Council Chairman Frank Petty, during the Council's meeting Friday afternoon. SUSC's total enrollment is 2,106, which is 48 more students than last year. Even though enrollment is high, only 240 nonresident students enrolled this year, commented Petty. This is an 11 percent decrease this year. He also added that part of the problem stems from the high tuition costs that out of state students have to pay. Cedar City is very close to the Nevada border, and the college usually brings in a good number of students. "The tuition hike hurt us quite a bit," Petty said. The state and the Board of Regents are working together to try and find a solution to the present problem. In other business, the Council agreed to establish a new concept of faculty exchange. An SUSC faculty member, after careful screening, will trade places with another faculty member from a different campus. Petty explained that the purpose of this trade will be to generate new ideas. SUSC will benefit from new ideas gained from having a new faculty member on campus. Also, by sending an SUSC faculty member to another campus, he or she should return with new ide; s. |
