Addie Naegle, chairman of the Toquerville display, will exhibit Toquervilleas the former County Seat of Kane County. Toquerville won the Utah Prize for the cleanest Community and a National Prize for a Clean-up Campaign. Orderville will present the most elaborate display, with Jack Nielsen as chairman. Clella Hepworth is making the figures for the display, which will show women quilting and many other activities that occurred in Pioneer days. The Cedar City Junior High School is painting a mural of Silver Reef, which was of particular par-ticular economic importance for the early pioneers in Dixie. Alva Matheson, chairman for Manti, will contribute pioneer period relics. Louise Liston will display Hole in the Rock and Dancing Rock for Escalante. Wayne Baird, a senior at Escalante High School will be helping with other activities ac-tivities planned for the Escalante display. Everyone is urged to view the exhibit at the SUSC library, and experience the early pioneer days of southern Utah. Replicas of the Early Southern Utah Pioneer Commun'Mes will be on display at the .- uthern Utah State College Jbrary beginning Monday, Mar. 22. Each replica will express the communities history, spirit of integrity, fair and hard work involved in the survival and construction of early Southern Utah. The communities participating in the display include: Fillmore, Beaver, Fort Cameron, Cove Fort, Parowan, Cedar City, Washington, St. George, Santa Clara, Hurricane, Toquerville, Orderville, Silver Reef, Manti, and Escalante. All will be permanent per-manent displays kept in each community. Hopefully we will send all of the replicas to the Utah State Fair, giving Southern Utah good representation stated Ramona Chamberlain, Circulation Librarian at SUSC, and organizer of the bicentennial exhibit. She also announced that this will be one of the library's largest and important displays containing an array of historical significance. Gwen Hunter is chairman for the Fillmore display. Dean Peterson's High School class will help in creating Fillmore's exhibit. Marjory Mackrell is doing a painting of early Beaver and Mr. and Mrs, Robert Draper will build a replica of Fort Cameron, located about 3-5 miles east of Beaver. The Cedar City High School will create the Cove Fort replica including the waystation for travelers, and the early' telegraph. Larry Hatch is chairman of the Parowan Display, which will feature the first school in Iron County, which was held in a teepee. The Iron Mission, Old Cedar Fort and the Bell cast bv Iron Works will represent Cedar City. Lois Lang, Utah State Park Ranger, will display silkworms and cotton plants for the i Washington Exhibit. The Brigham Young Winter Home, the First Temple finished by the Mormon Church in Utah and the County Seat will be presented by the St. George chairman, Jerry Tolman. Nellie Gubler, chairman and Donald Beacham are working with the Jacob Hamblin Home, Indian Artifiacts, and the |
