Show Josephine Smith succumbs; services held PAROWAN - Josephine Barney Smith, 91 of Parowan died in the Valley View Medical Center Monday, March 14, 1976 in Cedar City of causes incident to age. Mrs. Smith was born July 13, 1884 in Panguitch to Alma and Alice Ann Gardiner Barney. Married William Delbert Smith June 8, 1908 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died October 12, 1959. ' , An active member of the LDS Church she worked on the quilting committee for twenty four years and was a visiting teacher until 85 years of age. She made many beautiful articles , with her hands. A member of the I Elizabeth Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, she served as . chaplin and was honored in 1975 as the "worthy daughter" of the camp. She graduated from the Beaver Academy and Branch Normal School.Survivors Include three daughters: Mrs. Elmer' (Delia) Gurr, Mrs. Charles (Norma) Burton of Parowan, - and Mrs. Alice Pryor of Cedar City. Sixteen grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren. ' One daughter, Edith Pryor' preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Thursday March 16, at 2 p.m. in the Third Ward Chapel in Parowan with Bishop Rodney Adams conducting. Interment was in the Parowan City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Southern Utah Mor- tuary. 1 " ' |
