Show Letters to the Editor Editor: ! BOY OH BOY OH BOY Are we being sold down the river!! First we were supposed to have had some cheaper electric power from Boulder Dam. I don't believe even Las Vegas gets any power, from there now. Next we were supposed to get some power from Glen Canyon. Now it looks like its all going down the river. On this Kaiparowits deal, it looks like they want our coal and more water to generate more power for the States down the river. Of course they will let us have all the ashes, smog and maybe a little power, if our politicians, leaders, and power companies don't give that away too. In June 1952 the Southern Utah Power Company promised us that they would have adequate low-cost electric power to serve our area. They were just finishing up a multi-million dollar construction program, namely (A steam plant up the canyon). Warren Bulloch was the President then. It looks like this was sold down the river also. Now we have to buy electric power from the northern part of the state, and pay for transmission tran-smission lines from there. Also we are paying for a diesel plant that won't even run in an emergency. Now I'm in favor of developing our own natural resources for , our own use, but I cannot see letting it all go down the river. They have most of our water, hydrolic electric power, and now they are after our coal. I was around and remember when the first electric power came to Cedar. It was generated up the canyon from a water wheel with a big flat belt, hooked up to a generator. I also remember driving down to Boulder Dam when it was being built. So you can see that I have been around a few years, and have seen how we have been jipped on every turn. It looks like we will never have low cost power again in this area.
