Public meeting will be held April 7, April 28, and May 19 to give citizens an opportunity to express their opinions and exchange ex-change idieas on important American issues. "There is no money involved, no commercialism, just a place to get together to 'discuss American--what it is, how it got that way, and where it is headed," Rodney D. Decker, assistant professor of political science, notes. Professor Decker and Wayne K. Hinton, assistant professor history, are co-directors for the series and will act as discussion moderators. "The forum is not oriented toward a lecture type of program; once the topic is introduced, in-troduced, the audience has the floor," Decker said. Each meeting will be held in Old Main, room 206, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. No fee will be charged except for persons desiring one hours college credit. . The topic of discussion for the April 7 meeting is "American in the World-A Nationa Among Nations," for April 28 "Growing Up in America-a Sense of Belonging," and May 19 "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness--The Fruits of Wisdom" "The program is being held nation-wide to allow individuals to express 1 themselves on significant issues without givng undue emphasis to commercialism com-mercialism that has been so much a part of this bicentennial year," Decker said. "We will be looking at American, asking what is American, how did it come to be what it is and what are the problems that disturb each of us Americans today," Decker said, "and we ask citizens of all ages to join us." |
