Show 30 YEARS AGO Jan. 10, 1&52 A serious shortage of hay has ' threatened the livestock Industry in the Uintah Basin. Local sheepmen report that hay is selling from $45 to $50 a ton, and some dealers as high as $C0. Any hay sold in the Basin must be imported from Montana and Kansas, since none is available locally. Free lunches are raining down on Ashley Valley pheasants, by courtesy of the Vernal Gun Club. The club, in cooperation with the State Game and Fish Commission, began this week with an operation "corn airlift," to relieve the game birds stranded without feed In the deep snow. The distinguished service cross for gallantry in action in Korea has been awarded to 1st Lt. Earl K. Woolley, Vernal, for the heroic assault which he led near Parun. The Uintah "Fighting Utes" chalked up their first season victory Wednesday evening when they met the Altamont "Longhorns" on their home floor by running up an impressive score of 67-34 in the season-opener game. |
