On January 16-17, 1982, United Cerebral Palsy will be staging its fourth nationwide na-tionwide network telethon. The 21-hour "WEEKEND WITH THE STARS" Telethon Tele-thon for Cerebral Palsy is one of the biggest star-studded star-studded specials on network television, featuring prominent promi-nent celebrities in the fields of comedy, music, drama, dance and sports. Hosting this year will be the husband hus-band and wife team of John Ritter, and Nancy Morgan Ritter, Paul Anka and Dennis Den-nis James. Hundreds of other celebrities appear regularly reg-ularly on the show, among them Henry Winkler, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Carol Burnett, Joyce DeWitt, Gavin MacLeod, Robert Guillaume, Hal Linden, Cheryl Ladd and Dinah Shore. Last year's telethon pledges were over $14 million, mil-lion, more than $1 million more than the year before money that supports costly research, therapeutic programs, sports and other local services and professional profes-sional training all vital to the fight against cerebral palsy. For the 700,000 children and adults who have cerebral palsy and the rnillions of other disabled people who benefit from UCP programs, this telethon is much more than just another television program. It can mean the difference between living in an institution and living independently.
