Show Manila ' I Clara Robinson I Phone 784-3463 Manila mayor takes oath Carole Scott, Manila's new mayor, took the oath of office at the Town of Manila Office at 9 a.m. Jan. 4. The oath was given by Town Clerk Kathy Meinrod. Also taking the oath was William E. Robinson who was reelected councilman in the November election. The other new officer Jolene Carter was unable to be in town to take the oath at the same time. She will take the oath later. The Manila Town officials are now Mayor Carole Scott, Jolene Carter, Doris Zohner, William Robinson and Joe Friedman. The colder weather in Manila is dropping as low as 1 below zero at the weather station has caused the town water problems. Saturday morning a bad leak was discovered near the Rohne place on Main Street with the town mainline broken and six inches of water gushing down the street. The stream turned at the next corner and continued past the front of the post office causing ice problems there. When this leak was repaired, it was found that a line adjoining was broken too. This too was repaired. A short time later a leak was discovered on 1st East near the Bennett home. Tuesday morning a leak on private property was found. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Viar are parents of a daughter born Dec. 16 in Ogden. The baby weighed 8 lbs. and 9 oz. and was named Hollie Jeanette. Her paternal grandfather is George Viar of Lynchburg, Va. and her maternal grandmother is Mrs. Ben Crumpt of Fresno, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Neff are parents of a boy born Dec. 22 at the Utah V Hey Hospital in Provo. The little .nan weighed 6 lbs. and 5 did will be named Ryan Buckley. His paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Albert M. Neff of Manila. His maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Buckley of Lyman, Wyo. Kristee Briggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Briggs of Manila, was home for the Christmas holidays and returned to BYU Jan. 4. Derlene Reed, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Deri Reed, was home from USU in Logan for the Christmas season. Mrs. Robert Gerber, Logan, visited her daugher and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. James Briggs and children during the Christmas holidays. , The Manila LDS Ward held a Christmas party at the Recreation Hall Dec. 23. It consisted of songs by the choir, reading of prophesies of Christ's birth from both the Book of Mormon and the Bible and their fulfillment, talk by the Bishop, a modern -Christmas story and songs by the primary. Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson returned New Years day from a trip to visit their daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Herman Courtwright and children in Tonganoxie, Kansas. While in Tonganoxie, they traveled to Topeka where they visited Mrs. Robinson's aunt Goldie Shaw, Mrs. Shaw's son Kenneth from Washington, D.C., her daugher and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Ray Winkler and the Winkler's daughter and three children. They attended the New Year's Eve party at the home of their son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Art Robinson in Rock Springs. The Manila-McKinnon wards joined to hold a New Year's Eve party at the Manila Ward Recreational Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Reich and two daughters of Houston, Texas spent the holidays with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Reich Sr. in Rock Springs and Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Steinaker Sr. in Manila. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cooper and baby of Van Buren, Ark., spent the holidays with Mrs. Cooper's parents Mr. and Mrs. Vance Grubb in Manila. |
