But there is the Army Reserve way. The Reserve doesn't claim to make enlistees en-listees instant winners at this liame, but Reserve service ser-vice does provide enlistees some economic aid. Part-time service in the Army Reserve results in a second paycheck. For only 38 days of Army Reserve duty, an E-5 with over four years Active Army experience ex-perience can earn over $1,800 a year. This can be an important way for an Active Army soldier, whose enlistment is up, to provide otherwise impossible extras for the family. It is estimated esti-mated that during a 20-year Reserve career, a part-time soldier can earn as much as $65,000. There are other benefits available to those who join nil the Reserve. Reservists are eligible to purchase $35,000 worth of low cost group life insurance for a monthly premium of only $5.25. Reservists and their families fami-lies can save money by shopping at military post exchanges. They are allowed one shopping day for each day of drill plus unlimited access during periods of Annual Training. Reserve families also can save 20 percent on their grocery bill by shopping at the commissary commis-sary when a Reservist is on Annual Training or extended Active Duty. |
