Show "Food, Fitness, and Fun" classes offered atSUSC "Food, Fitness, and Fun!" will be the theme of a series of free summer programs and workshops to be offered to Southern Utah State College summer school students, faculty, staff, and townspeople by the SUSC Student Center, it was announced an-nounced by Ken Benson, Student Center coordinator. "Summer is the time to revitalize re-vitalize ourselves, to learn new hobbies and skills, and to enjoy nature and the outdoors," Benson said. "To assist Student Center patrons in doing these things we have designed a course of programs that should appeal to the interests of all age groups. The Student Center offerings of-ferings will begin on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, June 15, at 3 pm. with a demonstration and discussion on herbs and health foods and supplements sup-plements by Bill and Dana Gillespie, proprietors of the Sunshine Natural Foods store in Cedar City. Special emphasis will be given to the use of herbs in food preparation. Samples of high nutrition foods will be provided, and storage qualities will be discussed. Ethnic cooking will be the topic of the second workshop to be conducted by the Student Center on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, June 22, at 3 p.m. Bessie Dover, coordinator of a class in International Cuisine taught at SUSC during the regular school year, will introduce the basics of various types of food preparation as observed ob-served by nations throughout the world. Specialized cooking equipment will be demonstrated demon-strated and recipes for a variety of foreign dishes will be provided for the participants. par-ticipants. Outdoor cooking and selection and care of equipment will be presented by Ken Benson on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, June 29, at 3 p.m. Emphasis will be on dutch oven techniques for cooking all types of foods from appetizers ap-petizers to desserts. Sourdough Sour-dough biscuits will be provided for those attending the workshop as well as sourdough starts. Each participant will also receive a complimentary copy of Benson's popular recipe and information booklet entitled, "A Taste of the Old West, or Dutch Oven Cooking Made Easy and Sourdough Hints." Other programs planned by the Student Center for the first session of SUSC Summer School include a dance with live music on the patio in front of the SUSC Library on Wednesday, June. 15 at 9 p.m.; a group hike through Ashdown Gorge on Cedar Mountain Saturday, June 18, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Student Center, and an evening of "movies on the Quad" Wednesday, June 22 at 10 p.m. All are free of charge to the public. Brian Terry, Student Center assistant activities coordinator, coor-dinator, is in charge of arrangements for these events. Summer activity cards will be issued to summer . school students which will enable them to participate in recreational programs and use Physical ' Education Building facilities free of charge. They will also be entitled to all campus privileges afforded students during the regular school year. Schedules of all SUSC summer activities now calendared will be available in the Student Center during summer school registration on Monday, June 13, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, or at any time after that .date.
