Show Arctic Circle hangs on to slim lead It's a real battle for top honors in the Cedar City National League with Arctic Circle holding a slim one-half one-half game lead over Jaycees at the end of action Friday night. Standings at the conclusion con-clusion of Friday's play were as follows: Arctic Circle 4 2 Jaycees 3 2 Ron'sSporting 3 3 Elks 3 3 Lions 2 3 Town & Country 2 4 The first home runs of the season were hit during the week and both came in Friday's action. Mark Rollo belted a two run homer in the first inning of play to lead his Town and Country team to a 14-1 victory over Lions. The second homer was by Joel Meyers for Jaycees in a losing effort as Jaycees lost to Arctic Circle to give the Circle Crew the league lead. On the mound for Town & Country for the big win over Lions was Burt Mitchell and Mark Rollo. Mike Wilden suffered the loss. In the close 10-9 battle Craig Soderquist was credited with the win for Arctic and Cary Edwards suffered the loss. Earlier in the week Town & Country scored a run in the eighth to go on to defeat Ron's Sporting Goods in a game that was discontinued Friday owing to darkness. However Ron's came back to down T & C by an identical score 7-6 in other action. Mark Esplin picked up the win in that game with Kevin Smith suffering the loss. Tuesday it was Chuck Embley on the mound to lead the Jaycees to a 9-4 victory over Elks. K. C. Jones suffered the loss. Craig Soderquist for Arctic Circle picked up his second mound victory over the week Wed. whjen his team defeated Lions 13-7. It was Mike Wilden suffering the loss. In Thursday's action Elks, behind the pitching of Val Armstrong, downed Ron's Sporting Goods by a score of 11-5. Davis suffered the loss. |
