Show Kiwanis, Coleman lead in American LL The second week of the American Little League finished up June 3, 1977. Monday Coleman won over Carter Brothers by a score of 13 to 10. Four home runs were hit which led to a very exciting evening for all the fans. Boys to hold the honors of hitting the first home runs were as follows: Ben Whitney of Coleman in the first inning followed by Darren Marquardson, and Jim Russum also of Coleman, for Carter Brothers, Brett Staple carried the honor. Tuesdays game was equally exciting with Spilsbury and Graff coming our victorious over Rotary 9 to 6. Unlike Mondays game no home runs were hit but it was quite a pitching duel. The pitching duel was split on Spilsbury and Graff between Robert Nakken, Kurt Lambeth and Roger Hulet, while Danny Bulloch went the distance for Rotary. Wednesday Milne played Kiwanis. Kiwanis showed good batting strength by having 7 singles and 3 doubles. Milne also hit well with 5 singles and 1 double but went down in defeat with the final score 15 to 4. Thursday Carter Brothers faced Spilsbury and Graff. Carter Brothers looking for their first win came out on top by the score of 8 to 5. Good fielding kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. Friday was double header time with the first game going to Rotary over Milne with a home run by Robert Pearson in the first inning. Milne could not recover after the big scoring first jnning and went down in defeat by the score of 16 to 2. The second game proved to be more exciting than the score shows. Three home runs in that game, one for Bruce Evans which helped Kiwanis defeat Coleman 13 to 7. Coleman worked hard to come through, with back to back homers by Ben Whitney and Jim Russum but to no avail. League standings show Kiwanis 3 wins 1 loss, Coleman 3 wins 1 loss, Rotary 2 wins 2 losses, Milne 2 wins 2 losses, Carter 1 win 3 losses, Spilsbury & Graff 1 win 3 losses. |
