Show Chamber of Commerce names slogan contest winner Sandy Gillies, a writer employed by SUSC Information Services, was named the winner of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce Slogan Contest, following Monday's Chamber Board meeting. Miss Gillies winning entry was: Cedar City - Where your vacation could last a lifetime!" In making the presentation to the surprised winner, Chamber Executive Secretary Garth Jones said the slogan is versatile enough that it can be applied ap-plied to any aspect of Cedar City, such as sports, scenic beauties, college opportunities or the Shakespearean Festival. He said the Chamber will use the slogan on brochures, in ad campaigns cam-paigns and on letterheads and similar materials setn out by the office. "The more we thought about it, the more we liked it," Jones said. "We'll tie it in as much as is feasible." Miss Gillies, a native of Beaver and a graduate of SUSC, said winning the contest was "incredible. I've never won anything before in my life." She said the slogan was something that she thought of "right off the top of my head" when the contest was first announced. an-nounced. She wins $25 and a steak dinner for two for her efforts. The decision by the Chamber wasn't an easy one, as over 40 entries were received. Many were similar-with lots of "color country" and "scenic wonderlands" won-derlands" to choose from, were "The City at the Top," "All Season Hideaway", "Cedar City-fine Home, fine place, fine people," "Good living and good sports," and many more. |
