democratic elections it appears from an article by a veteran latter day saint published m this issue that president brigham young was well acquainted quain ted with democratic election methods president young said in a bermon april I 1 would tell all the democrats in the world if they were here that all their opposition contains within itself alie germ of dissolution of that i government overn ment to which they be belong it is from ania hoarce that all and contention originate and whenever a government is based epou democratic elections it lias placed within it the germ for its destruction how true that doctrine is can be better realized by the latter day saints today than when uttered some twenty conr years ago the people of utah knew nothing of democratic elections until the present ammis bion took the election machinery machi Dery in hand As the deseret news says in an able editorial also reproduced elsewhere in all the past years of history not a single member of the legislature ever held a seat through fraudulent elections the ballot box in utah has hitherto been held and punishment will surely be meted out to any party which now attempts to interfere with its the d recount is raising euca a storm of indignation among the pioneers of utah ahat democracy wll have a burl to outlive alie attempted san tor job has been too worked people of utah have not balen accustomed to electious elec tiou before but they think it epry strange that those discrepancies shall all be in favor of one party judges of election have hitherto boen able to count a chaple or three hundred ballots bol lots without making mistakes but nov no v the commis lo would have the peo pla believe thul this year these judges hive uniformly ignudo ELi stakes against choir own party and unobserved by tho candidates watching the count to abo extent in some case of fifty odd voters the people will not believe it they cant bri lieve it and they are turning their backs in scorn upon the party that is thus attempting to play upon their credulity
