Show Viking views mi Valentines Day By DENNIS JOLLEY Well, here it is, that most useful of all holidays, Valentines Day. Whoever thought up this day must have been taking something they throw you in jail for. I mean really, what do we do on this day that is of any significant consequence? Well, we buy enough chocolate to send Mrs. Cavanaugh to Europe, buy enough flowers to get the Hep-worths Hep-worths a new ski boat, and give each other enough cards that Hallmark Hall-mark can afford to present another of their award-winning special movies about a dedicated social worker in some big city. I don't mean to put down this dear St. Valentine, but as Troy Olsen has said, "If you're not going to get out of school for a holiday, holi-day, why have it?" Unless you are madly in love, or doing something of the sort, the day is pretty much uselsss. So in defiance to the traditions tradi-tions of society, I am not going to be sweet and charming to anyone on Saturday. Rather, I am going to go down to Provo and see the B YU vs. Utah basketball game (I figure that if you are going to hate a day anyway, you might as well spend it in Utah County). Oh, and by the way, unlike many people in Utah, I couldn't care less who wins. I do however care who wins the basketball game to be held on this Friday. You see, the mighty Vikings Vik-ings will be traveling to Davis to battle it out for the second time around. I know that I will be cheering cheer-ing quite loudly for one team this time, as will the rest of the "port-a-pit", and that team will be the Vikes. You should come cheer the Vikes on to victory too, so just show up at Davis this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and have some fun. Also this week on Friday and Saturday, is the State Wrestling Tournament. The Vikings have a few wrestlers that promise to make quite a showing here (and if you can't find anyone to wrestle with yourself on Saturday, maybe you can go watch someone else). The Viking Swimmers will also be at their state tournament on Friday Fri-day and Saturday. And the Lady Vikes basketball team will be at Woods Cross on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. These fine young ladies will be free on Saturday Satur-day if you want to play some one-on-one. So that wraps it up for another fun-filled week at VHS. Lots more is intore, so keep in touch, and tell your wife, girlfriend, or both, that you love them. But don't forget the chocolate, the flowers, the cards... |
