Show Named to National Drug Federation Pat Hartman, of Bountiful, has recently been named to serve on the Executive Liaison Committee of the National Federation of Parents Pa-rents for Drug Free Youth. One of five national representatives, she will participate in determining legislative policy, resourcing state affiliate organizations and improving impro-ving parent power through the nation. na-tion. Pat has been a member of the parent movement for two years and during this time, has organized the Davis County Task Force on Youth Alcohol and Drug Abuse; effectively sought legislation to deter de-ter drug abuse; and participated in statewide decision making which has had a positive effect on handling hand-ling drug problems. Some of the volunteer positions Pat is currently involved in are: i ; f a I ' " ' ' i I" L 1 PAT HARTMAN second vice president of the Utah Federation for Drug Free Youth, the Governor's Task Force on Drug Abuse; the Hospital Association Associa-tion Task Force on Mental Health admittance criteria; Senator Hatch's Advisory Committee on Mental Health; and Women's State Legislative Council. ' ' Saving parents from the grief of having to deal with drug and alcohol alco-hol abuse in their home is a primary concern," says Pat. "Drug and alcohol abuse is devastating to the family, often breaking up the home and leaving permanent scars on the lives of all members. "Teaching good self esteem and Just Say No techniques at an early age along with Community Awareness Aware-ness and Government Cooperation will be a big deterent to the presently present-ly escalating abuse problems," she said. Representing the Rocky Mountain Moun-tain area with the NFP, Pat hopes to help other states affect solutions such as those being taken in Utah. "Utah may have been slow in getting get-ting the drug problem, but a quicker quick-er Utah will be dealing in effective solutions," Pat concluded. |
