Show Square Dancers To Perform Throughout Spain BOUNTIFUL -- More than 40 members of the famed Rocky Mountain Square Dancing Association will depart de-part tomorrow (Oct. 6) for a 10-day tour with performers throughout Spain. TOUR directors Ed and Lilli Sandoval, of Bountiful, said the group of about 80, including includ-ing some guests, will tour Spain during the Columbus Day Festival and the dancers will perform "for their own pleasure" during the tour. "We do not dance as an exhibition ex-hibition group, but will perform per-form if requested and will dance at various places just because be-cause we are a dance group." said Mrs. Sandoval. SHE NOTED this is the fifth time since the association was formed in 1974 that the group has traveled outside the continental con-tinental United States. The first trip in 1974 was to perform at the 10th annual Aloha Alo-ha Festival in Hawaii. The following fol-lowing year, they were the first dancing group ever to perform square dancing in Mexico. In 1981, they traveled to the Caribbean (performing aboard ship) and the last trip was a year ago when they traveled to Cancum in the Caribbean. THE DANCE group this year will be accompanied by Frank and Ruby Sanders, of Layton, who will do the calling for the dancers. "We'll have several Davis County residents in our dance group to Spain," said Mrs. Sandoval. "But many will be from throughout Utah and even from neighboring states. SHE SAID there are many individuals dance groups comprising com-prising the association, including includ-ing two singles groups in Salt Lake City and Ogden. Bountiful Bounti-ful and most other larger cities have at least one square dance group in the association. Mr. and Mrs. Sandoval have been directors of the association associa-tion since its conception 10 years ago. She said anyone interested in-terested in square dancing -regardless of the level of their dancing ability - is invited to join the associaton. |
