The Bountiful-Davis Art Center is proud to announce the opening of the 1983 LeConte Stewart Festival: Works On Paper, featuring watercolors, pastels, drawings and prints by LeConte Stewart. Ste-wart. The exhibit will open Sunday, Oct. 9 with a reception recep-tion from 2-5 p.m. at the Art Center. The public is invited to attend this opening reception to view works by one of Davis County's most recognized artists. MR. STEWART'S extensive exten-sive art education encompasses encompas-ses early study in 1912 at the University of Utah with Edwin Evans and private instruction with A. B. Wright. From 1913 through 1914, he had the unique uni-que opportunity of attending the Art Students League summer sum-mer school at Woodstock, New York, then further at the Art Students League in New York City. In 1 924 and again in 1 949 Mr. Stewart attended the Pennsylvania Pennsyl-vania Academy of Fine Arts at Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, Pennsylva-nia, studying with George T. Pierson, Daniel Garber, George Oberteuffer, Roy Nuse, Francis Speight and George Harding. HIS LIFE is further distinguished disting-uished by a teaching career dating from 1911, in which he taught for the Murray City Schools, Davis County elementary schools, and served as head of the art department de-partment for both East Side High School and Ogden Senior High School. He left Ogden Senior High School to become chairman of the Art Department at the University Uni-versity of Utah, retiring in 1956 as professor emeritus. Mr. Stewart Ste-wart continues to pursue his art at his home in Kaysville. "THE LECONTE Stewart Festival: Works On Paper" will open Sunday, Oct. 9 and continue through Nov. 13. The Bountiful Davis Art Center exhibit ex-hibit program is partially funded by grants from the Utah Arts Council, the National Nation-al Endowment for the Arts and the Institute of Museum Services, Ser-vices, Washington, D.C.
