Show jiimpanogos Stake Holds Quarterly Conference Apostle R. R. Lyman spoke. He requested re-quested Musical Director E. A. Beck to lead the congregation in the hymn "I Need Thee Every Hour," which la one of his favorite songs because ot the sentiments it contains. Apostle Lyman continued his talk along the line of "Tolerance." Miss Gertrude Gourley sang a vocal number as well as Miss Beth Blackwell. H. E. Johnson gave the closing prayer. Sunday evening being M. I. A. conference, Superintendent A- P. Warnick took charge. The Pleasant Grove Band with Director E. A, Beck occupied the choir seats and played several selections during the assembling of the congregation. The entire group were in uniform and In full attendance. The congregation sang "America", accompanied by the band, followed by invocation from David Gourley. A vocal duet by Joseph' Coulam and Frank Sharp o Lehl was then given. Apostle Lyman spoke requesting request-ing a report of the Stake Y. L. M. I. A. by Miss Estelle Fenton stake superintendent Miss Fenton said that her work this summer was at the M. I. A. Hut at Mutual Dell, where she expects to spend the summer sum-mer as matron. This she stated will give her a good opportunity to become be-come ecquaisted with everyone In the stake. The quarterly conference of the Timpanogos Stake was held Saturday and Sunday, the first session being Saturday evening, July 6, for all ward and stake officers and all Priest hood quorum officers. The second meeting was held Sunday morning, the attendance being very large. Apostle R. R. Lyman of the General church authorities was present. Stake President W. "W. Warnick was n charge. The congregation sang "How Firm A Foundation", after which Niels Fugal gave the invocation, Melba Fugal, Reva Fugal and Leone Told then sang a selection. Patriarch S. L. Swenson spoke of his new work as patriarch of the stake and of his love for the gospel. "W. L. Hayes spoke of his residence at Logan during dur-ing the last winter and his work in the Logan Temple while away. C. L. Wright, stake superintendent of the Sunday School, appreciated his work with the officers and they were ever trying to seek out the best for the Sunday Schools of the Timpanogos stake. Apostle Lyman's talk was in the formi of early reminiscences of his remembrance of Pleasant Grove and his love for the good people of this section. Musical numbers consisted of a male quartette by Eldon Brinley, An-tone An-tone Gleason, Harry Blackwell and Raymond Peterson, and a mixed Superintendent Warnick expressed his appreciation for the opportunity of working with such excellent stake officers. He related the early day experience of the late Jeddiah Smith", when he was discouraged, disheartened disheart-ened and disconsolate, how. he carried car-ried his much used Bible in one hanrl and a shot gun in the other. He also quoted the words of Napoleon, who said, "I know that the world thinks I am a great man; but there is only one great man and that Is "Jesus the Christ. Other great rulers ruled by force Jesus ruled by love." Apostle Lyman again spoke and musical numbers and prayer concluded con-cluded the session. quartette by Leone Told, Melba Fugal Eldon Brinley and Niels Fugal. The Benediction was pronounced by J. D. Thorne. The afternoon session opened w5th the congregation singing "Now Let Us Rejoice." Invocation was offered by Bishop L. M. Atwood. The following follow-ing officers in the stake were released releas-ed from the various positions held by them, Delbert Fugal, Leone Told, Blanche Clark, Elroy .Nelson and Dean Van Wagoner. S"take Secretary Millen Radmall presented the General Gene-ral and Stake officers to be sustained by the conference. Edmun Cragun, first counselor in stake, spoke of his appreciation for the officers in this stake , and urged the people to attend at-tend their sacrament meetings and use their influence to have others do so. Jane Walker, recently returned missionary from the North Western States, spoke of her trip to the Cards-ton Cards-ton Temple in Canada, and of the successful work of the Primary association in that conference. Virginia Vir-ginia Walker and Effle Mary Warnick both spoke a few minutes. They are leaving Monday for the mission home to prepare to do missionary work )n the very near future. j Russel Swenson, who has been teaching Seminary for several years, Ripoke of his summer school seminary work. He compared our religion to that of other churches. "We must be tolerant with other religions." Samuel D. Moore, Seminary teacher teach-er of the Timpanogos stake, spoke of the radio being a big help to fulfill the scripture, "that the gospel will be preached to every nation of the earth." Miss Bessie Lowe and Miss Fern pehrson sang a selection, after which |
