Show o Safe At Farmers Exchange Blown Open By Burglars The safe at the Farmers Exchange was blown open early on the morning of July 4th by burglars, who gained entrance through the north door of the ware house. The door to the drawer which held $2 in silver and several checks was locked with a key, the key remaining in the lock. This door was not injured with the explosion, ex-plosion, although bits of iron was strewed all over the floor and some of the asbestos lining was picked from the safe ceiling. The explosion which blew the main door open broke twenty four rivets arid every bit of the mechanism of the combination was destroyed. It is supposed that after the yeggs gained entrance through the ware-bouse, ware-bouse, they forced open the sliding door by means of a railroad tie, one of them crawling through and opening open-ing the floor for his comrad. Tracks in the dust showed this movement. Both wore gloves and pried open the door leading to the office, as the door and casing were badly damaged. Sheriff J. D. Boyd and deputies from Provo together with Marshal Winters have found no clues up to the present time that will lead to the apprehension of the burglars. n |
