The study of county needs is important, said health board member mem-ber Pam Hilbert, because Summit could choose several different new formats. "We could get a director who is a physician, or someone with a Masters in Public Health, or someone with an equivalent in a bachelors degree." The county could be merged with another county or a district, or even be directed by a state officer. (The last option is unlikely, she said. ) Chandler said he was asked to do a study as soon as possible. He will try to set down some written ideas this week to submit to the county. The Mountainland Association of Governments is preparing to undertake under-take a study of the health needs of Summit County. It will help the county to pick a permanent health director, said Homer Chandler, executive director of Mountainland. Chandler said his study will focus on (1 ) the scope of health department activities, (2) options open to the county, and (3) suggestions for organizing and staffing the department.! depart-ment.! At its April meeting, the health board had discussed interviewing finalists for the health position as early as June. A three-member personnel committee was charged with starting the process. But one committee member told the Record they changed their direction after discussions with the county commission, Mountainland and officials from the Utah Department Depart-ment of Health.
