The 1966 film "Walk -VA it, J II Don't Run" (to show Friday, July 20) OjaysT 11 is a comedy about crowded rooming conditions atthe 1964 Tokyo Olympics, forcing Cairy Grant to share living quarters with runner Jim Hutton and Samantha Eggar. The movie plays at 2 p.m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (for 50 cents). -Foreign-made films supply the week's entertainment at the Blue Mouse 260 East 100 South. "Mad Max" is played by Mel Gibson, in a futuristic road movie set in Australia. "The Return of Martin Guerre" is about a husband who deserts his wife, then returns to her. But L this man actually the long-lost Martin? And Oscar-winner "Mephisto" shows an actor selling his soul to the Nazis. -The Utah Media Center presents "The Bank Dick" with W.C. Fields as Egbert Souse, who accidentally foils a robbery and is rewarded with a job as a bank guard. It plays on July 20 (9 :30 p.m. ) July 21 (7:30) and July 22 (5:30 and 9:30 p.m.). The second feature at the center is John Ford's "Wagonmaster." Ward Bond and Ben Johnson star in a story of a Mormon wagon train crossing the plains, fighting Indians and being menaced by a psychopathic outlaw family. James Amess portrays the nuttiest of the bunch! It plays on July 20 (7:30 p.m.) July 21 (5:30 and 9:30 p.m.) and July 22 (7?:30 p.m.). Admission is $2.50 for each film, or $3.50 for the double feature. The Media Center is at 20 South West Temple. Park West celebrates Pioneer Day with a concert featuring f-- America and Poco. The July 24 program starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are ' $11.25 in advance and $13.25 at the gate, available at ParkWest and Datatix outlets. Remember, no coolers, containers or booze. The Utah Symphony continues its Summer Pop series with an all-Beethoven program, including his violin concerto, Symphony 5 and overture to "Egmont." Charles Ketcham conducts with soloist Andre Cardenas, the symphony concertmaster The program will be presented on July 20, 8 p.m. at Symphony Hall and the Snowbird Resort July 21 at 5 p.m. Prices for tickets range from $10 to $18. The Zephyr Club, at 301 South West Temple, presents Matt "Guitar" Murphy, best known as a member of the Blues Brothers Band, July 19-21 at 9 p.m. Jazz at Trolley Square presents the Salt Lake Goodtime Jazz Band on July 21. The concert from the Square's Sixth South Amphitheatre is broadcast live at 8 p.m. over KUER-FM. THEATRE ZoJ. The Intei-mountain Actors En- 40 semble brings you the third year of $T its Park City Shakespeare Festival, 1 this time at the ice rink of the Park ' -s. City Resort Center. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" plays Thursdays through Aug. 23. "Twelfth Night" is featured on Fridays through Aug. 24. And "Richard HI" plays on Saturdays through Aug. 25. Curtain is 8 p.m. Prices are $7 for adults, $6 for students-seniors-Kimball Art Center members, and $15 for all three shows. The new version of "This is the Place," Park City's centennial musical, plays every Friday and Saturday through September 2. Shows at Main Street's Egyptian Theatre and admission is $4.50. This week, the show stars Dick Cummings, Collyn Adamson and Jill Snyder. "How the West Was Sung," a dinner theater revue, plays Saturday at Prospector Square. Dinner begins at 5:30 followed by the show at 7 p.m. The cost for both is $14.95 for adults and $5.95 for kids. Utah theater's most demented satire, "Saturday's Voyeur," returns. The Salt Lake Acting Company production plays through Saturday July 21 at 8 p.m., and is featured on July 22 at 7 p.m. Then it plays nightly through August, except Mondays and July 30-31. A musical satire of Shirley Temple movies, "Curley McDimple," opens on July 19 and plays odd calendar dates through Sept. 1 at the little Bowery of the Promised Valley Playhouse. The Agatha Christie spoof "Something's Afoot" plays on even calendar days. Sundays are excluded from both schedules. Showtimes is 7 p.m., and 5 p.m. on Mondays. The theater is at 132 South State. "The Gathering," a musical history of Salt Lake and its diverse cultures, stars Robert Peterson and will be presented at the Triad Center's 2300-seat outdoor amphitheatre nightly, except Sunday, through July 28. Curtain is 8 p.m. Tickets available at Triad, Salt Palace, ZCMI, Special Events Center and Trolley Square. The Center is at 340 West South Temple. "Fiddler on the Roof" plays at the Sundance Resort at 8:30 p.m. on odd calendar dates through Sept. 3. "Pippin" continues on even calendar dates through August at 8:30 p.m. (Both schedules exclude Sundays.) Dress warmly for Sundance's outdoor theater. The musical comedy "Once Upon a Mattress," at the Lagoon Opera House, plays Wednesday-Saturday through July, and Tuesday-Saturday through August 25. It runs through Julv 26. ZIPPJS Art Center- 20 South West Temple, features an exhibit of Western artists with a grand opening and sale on Julv 20. 5-9 p m. Tickets are $50 for the exhibit, a barbecue, dances and Western films. The exhibit appears from July 16 to Aug 6 -Days of '47 Rodeo plays at the Salt Palace on July 17-24 (excluding July 22) at 7 :30 with a 2 :30 matinee on July 24. Special guest is Dottie West and orchestra. Prices range from $4 50 to $7 50 -The Hansen Planetarium, 15 South State, presents "Cosmos: The Voyage to the Stars, with narration by Carl Sagan. It plays weekdays (11 a.m. 2, 4:30 and 7 p.m.), Saturdays (2, 4:30 and 7 p.m.) and Sundays (2 and 4:30 p.m.). "Close Encounters," a show starring the music of John Williams, plays Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. General admission is $4. The children s star show, "Circus of the Stars and Planets" plays at the Hansen, Saturday at 11 a.m. The next Hansen star parties are scheduled for July 20 at the Stansbury Park Observatory Complex and July 24 at Sugarhouse Park. |
