Show Newbury to stand trial Edward Charles Newbury, the man accused in the slaying of his grandmother near Kamas, has been ruled mentally competent to stand trial by Third District Court Judge David Dee. ; Newbury, 24, will stand trial on the charge of second degree murder Sept. 5 in Coalville. He is ! charged in connection with the March 16 death of Alma Jones, 66, of Kamas. I Newbury recently completed a 30-day psychiatric examination by mental health officials at the Utah State Hospital in Provo. The court ordered the evaluation after 1 public defender Kenneth R. Brown I entered a motion of behalf of 1 Newbury. That motion asked that Newbury be examined by I psychiatrists to determine if he "i was able to aid in his own defense. I Jones had lived alone in Kamas I ' following the death of her husband Itwo years ago. Newbury came from Missouri to live with her in January of this year. |
