Thomas Benton, Abbie Whitney to exhibit at Kimball Art Center Paintings and serigraphs by Thomas Benton and watercolor paintings by Park City artist Abbie Whitney will be featured at the Kimball Art Center July 29 through Aug. 30. Benton was working as an architect in Los Angeles in 1964 when he put both career and California behind him and moved to Aspen, Colorado. There he began the search for a way to express himself without having to submit to the compromises of architecture. That led to the paintings which will be displayed in the Main Gallery of the Kimball Art Center. Abbie Whitney is now a resident of Park City but lived the major portion of her life in Salt Lake City. She has studied under such renowned artists as Le Conte Stewart, Alvin Gittins, and Ed Maryon. She has exhibited through the Utah Watercolor Society, Kimball Art Center, and Apple Yard Art. Whitney painted exclusively in oils until recently, but found an exciting challenge in the mediums medi-ums of acrylics and watercolors. "I particularly enjoy capturing on paper the wonderfully quaint qualities of the old homes and buildings in and around Park City," she said. Her paintings will be displayed in the Lower Gallery. The opening reception honoring honor-ing the artists will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 29. It is . free and open to the public.
