' by Randy Hanskat What can you get for $15 anymore? any-more? If you're a Park City youngster, you can get your fill of baseball, T-ball T-ball or softball action, as well as ; uniforms. For $15 about 125 kids have signed up for the Little, T-ball and Ponytail leagues which began play on Monday. As if that weren't bargain enough, this year the playing field at Park Meadows is more than just dirt and , weeds it is actually covered with grass, thanks to a reseeding program set up by Bob Johnston of the City and Steve Haugen of the Recreation Department. The grass still has some weak spots, but it will continue to improve, and is strides ahead of last year. Haugen said the toughest part about getting this year's season started was finding coaches. Eight ' finally were recruited: for . the ; Ponytail League, Julie Christians; T-ball Bob DiTullio, Niles Harbertson and John Hansen; and Little League Jeff Scott, Bob Then, Bob Edmiston and Dan Ward. Those volunteers, Haugen said, should be applauded for turning out. There are four Little League teams. It was the Little Leaguers who were the first to start off their season with two games Monday evening. They will play each Monday and Thursday night. The first game is at 5:30, the second at 6:45. The T-baller ranks have three teams. Their games will be played every Tuesday and Friday evening at6p.m. The Ponytailers will play a total of five games, each on a Wednesday at 6 p.m. In those games the girls will face one of the four Little League teams, but the game will be softball. Haugen said he is trying also to schedule a few exhibition games with girls' softball teams from Kamas. |
