V-? by Randy Hanskat Did you drive all the way out to Deer Creek this weekend hoping to bronze your body? Were you mobbed by millions of others with the same idea? Did you get snared by an off-target fisherman? Did the slimy water stick to your burned and blistered skin? Or did you stay home, choosing to tan in the backyard, all the while wishing there was some water nearby to jump into as the sweat rolled off your body? Who needs it, right? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to tan without the mess? Scott Giauque, manager of Tan Fastique in the Holiday Village Mall, thinks so. And he says his salon is just the place to bronze without the burn or the hassle. Tan Fastique is Park City's only tanning salon, with four new Silver Solarium tanning beds. The business opened July 5 next to the First Interstate bank. The four beds are worth a trip to Tan Fastique just to see. They look like something out of Buck Rogers, each in its own private room. The sunbather is sandwiched between the layers of the machine like a hamburger in a bun. On go the ultraviolet lights, and a half hour later the sunbather emerges with color on both sides. Giauque says it takes five to eight half-hour sessions to get a good base.. Getting a good base is really the idea at this time of year, unlike the winter when Tan Fastique is about the only way to get an overall tan other than moving to the Virgin Islands. Giauque said people with fair skins can benefit from Tan Fastique, building up a good base before venturing forth into the blazing real thing. He said it's also useful for those who work regular hours and can't get much sun time during the week. But it is in the winter that Giauque thinks the most business will come through the door. "It's very relaxing, especially in the winter," he said. "People can come in after skiing and bake." That baking isn't uncomfortable, though, he added. With a Sony Walkman (furnished to customers) on your head, a pair of goggles on your eyes, and a fan cooling you from head to toe, Giauque said a stop at the salon feels great. You don't need sunblock lotion, and most people don't need a shower afterwards. Scott Giauque kneels beside one of the four sparkling new tanning beds. Giauque said the salon was originally his idea. He then approached father, Richard Giauque, Giau-que, about the possibility of opening m a tanning salon in this area. The elder Giauque and partner Frank Stewart went ahead with the idea. Currently, as a grand opening special, Giauque said Tan Fastique is offering 20 percent off. If a person buys five sessions for $20, the sixth is free. Call 649-8266 for bronzing. |
