A brand new angle was given to the visit of William Ixxb, Jr., 10 Beverly today It was reported that his talk with President Taft this afternoon on the "General Political Situation" would Include tho Payne-Aldrich tariff bill. President Taft, it is believed, is anxious that Col. Roosevelt should moke a careful study of the new law before committing himself in any way. The Colonel undoubtedly has bad the Insurgent view of the tariff pretty oil drilled Into him by Senators Sen-ators .Beverldgo, Brlstow, La Folletto and the others who nave been to Sagamore Hill. Mr. Taft, the Btory goes today, wants the Colonel to havo the administration's view. The report that tho tariff was to be the principal theme of discussion today seoms to be borne out by many circumstances. It is admitted that Mr. Loeb was summoned to Bevorly by Secretary Norton, with tho full knowledge of the President. Mr. Loeb's duties as collector of the port of New York brings him in touch with tho tariff and probably he knows more about the actual, practical workings work-ings of the law than any other man. Secretary Norton and Collector Loeb were together until late last night and resumed their conference this morning. They arranged to see the President at Burgess Point this afternoon. after-noon. Both remained uncommunicative uncommunica-tive regarding Mr. Loeb's visit other than to repeat the explanation of last night that it was to discuss tho "general political situation.". , The President played golf this morning with Henry C.
