Metz-ler Metz-ler pleaded guilty to tbe charge of begging and was sentenced to pay a fine of $10 or servo ten days in the city Jail at hard labor. The man seemed to be under the Impression that; begging Is a legitimate, business. busi-ness. William Nixon, an old man, was arraigned ar-raigned before the court on tho thagre of disturbing foe peace. He stated that he was not ready foT trial because his witnesses had not yet arrived. Ho waa placed under a bond of $5 and tho case set for trial tomorrow morning. Tho complaint Btates that Nixon hai trouble with his agod wife 'and that he gave her a beating, Elmer Erlckson, a well-known character char-acter in police court circles, pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace and tho court gave him a "suspended sentence' sen-tence' of 20 days. ' tn passing sentence, sen-tence, the court stated that there was no use ordering tho man out of the city for It was a certainty that he would no go and yet there was not much to be gbtacd by placing him in Jail. Harry Jarbow, Eldridge Booth and Walter Johnson, colored men, stated to tho court that they were guilty of vagrancy.
