Tho department contrasts this with the record of 1897, when the trade with non-contiguous territories aggregated aggre-gated only $35,000,000. Statistics ehow that for eleven months of the last flncal year the shipments from the United States to Porto Rico, Hawaii, the Philippines, Guam Midway, Tu-tulla Tu-tulla and Alaska, amounted to $75,-000,000 $75,-000,000 and the shipments therefrom to the United States $.96,000,000. This trade, both export and imports, im-ports, was largor than that of the preceding year. The largest percentage percent-age of gain was in the Philippines, to which the recent tariff act extended the privilege of interchange of merchandise mer-chandise free from duty. Imports from tho Philippines in eleven months ending with May, 1910, were valued at $15,887,418. against $8,860,429 Jn the same months in 1909. Exports for tho corresponding period amounted to $15,140,445 in 1910 and $9,S25,083 in 1909. |
