Show THE WATER SUPPLY. The morning papers indulged in facts and fancies thi3 morning In their stories of the waterworks. There were more fancies than . facts, though, and as a result the manager of the city water service ser-vice is not only mad Mt inclined to scalp the first guilty reporter! who crosse3 his path. As advertised, the change in the water system was effected Saturday night, so that by Sunday, long before the great majority of the water consumers were out of bed, the water mains were again under pressure from the main water supply. At about 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon the calking of one of the valves gave way, but this defect was overcome within an hour. So that the people were but slightly inconvenienced by the changes that were made and the water department more than kept faith. Even while the water was shut off from the city reservoir, a supply sup-ply of water was obtained from the Union Pacific water system by a connection made with the city mains. In the downtown district there as a pressure of 20 pounds to 40 pounds all Saturday night, so that the business section was at no time without sufficient fire protection pro-tection to meet any ordinary emergency. The work of the water department since Saturday night is commendable. com-mendable. I |
