Show SCHOOL ELECT! II SIT LIE SALT LAKE, Dec. 5 A total of 2843 residents of Salt Lake yesterday availed themselves of voting for members mem-bers of the board of education. Tho result was that in the first, third and fifth wards the members were reelected, re-elected, while in thor second and fourth wards the incumbents were defeated. In the first ward J. C. Howard had j no opposition on the official ballot and received 243 votes. An eleventh-hour dark horse developed In Leon Johnson ' and thirty-six voters chose to writo his name on the ballot, giving Howard a majority of 207 votes out of a total of 279 cast. The composition of tho new board of education is as follows: First ward, H. A. Smith, holdover; J. C. Howard, rejected; Second ward, A. G. Glauque, holdover, I. E. Willev elected; Third ward, O. D. Moyle, holdover, Dr. R. H. Bradford, relected; relect-ed; Fourth ward, Will G. Farrell, holdover, hold-over, G. A. Iverson elected; Fifth ward, J. H. Johnson, holdover; W. J. Bar-xette, Bar-xette, reelected. Messers Willey and Iverson are the two new members of the body. The tabulated vote by wards in the city is as follows: First ward John C. Howard 243; Leon. Johnson 36. Total 279. Second ward Dr. F. S. Bascom 47; Luke Leary none; S. R. Marks 125; I. E. Willey 231. Total 403. Third ward Dr. R. H. Bradford 171; Dr. W. R. CaIderwood,167; George W. Bailey 13; Stephen A. Newman G5. Total 55S. Fourth ward George F. Wasson, 331; G. A. Iverson 539. Total S70. Fifth ward William J. Barrette 315; J. H. Lamont 23; J. B. Moreton 176; Owen Nebeker 158; C. A. Weaver 2; Miss Kate Williams 59. Total 735. In the Granite school district an election was held in three wards, the first, third and fifth, the result adding three new membrs to the total of five in the board. E. R. Morgan and J. L. Lindsay, members of the old board, did not run for reelection in the third and fifth wards, the successful candidates in these being respectively O. W. Carlson Carl-son and Hyrum Bennion, Jr. |
