James, accompanied by his wife, arrived in Salt Lake yesterday yester-day for a stay of several weeks, during dur-ing which he will confer with representatives repre-sentatives of local sugar and coal interests. in-terests. Speaking of tho difficulties confronting confront-ing Javanese sugar growers at this time, Mr. James said: "England has purchased the entire crop of Java, of which the planters arc mostly Hollanders. The planters must depend principally on Dutch ships to movo their goods, and they are now tfttempting to solve the problem arising aris-ing from tho fact that England, which bought the crbp, refuses to sell them coal to supply their ships. As a result re-sult of this condition, tho Javanese people are suffering greatly from lack of employment. We need coal to keep our ships going, and unless we can get relief the suffering will increase." |
