I17IHS FROM COAST SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 5. Tho Pacific Pa-cific division, American Red Cross, having assigned to duty 1307 nurses, leads all other divisions in the United States, according to announcement from headquarters here. Tho division includes California, Arizona, and Nevada. Nev-ada. In addition to this number, 27 nurses have been assigned to duty in the last four months, it was reported. A total number of 43 have completed hospital training. Early in November the division bureau bu-reau of nursing had an urgent call from the surgeon general of tho army is an innovation in its nursing service. ser-vice. This call is attributed to the splendid record made by nurses aides in this country during the Spanish influenza epidemic. Classes In elementary hygiene and home dietetisc havo been conducted by tho Bureau of Nursing during the year. Certificates have been awarded to 1168 students in elementary hygiene, hy-giene, and to 208 students in home dietetics. The bureau of personnel has sent abroad 113 men and 110 women. A majority of the Red Cross workers in Ihc Swiss Commission for Prisoners' Prison-ers' Relief was furnished out of this number. Other meu were sent to France and England. In addition to tho above number, eight physicians havo been accepted for work in Siberia. Fifty-nine applications ap-plications are now in Washington sub- J Ject to assignment, and 111 applica-' tlons for foreign service aro now in tho Division office in process of com- nlnllnn Women sent from tho division bu-. bu-. reau of personnel include 36 canteen and hut workers, 33 stenographers, 15 I social service workers, all of whom huve gone overseas since August 1 Before that time, 26 had been sent over. Many more workers for overseas over-seas are now enrolled but havo not yet been called. Since the peace proclamation recruiting re-cruiting in this bureau ollpilnates stenographers or clerks, social workers work-ers and all workers for service in Italy. It-aly. Headquarters of the Bureau of Personnel Per-sonnel are maintained at the San Francisco office, and branch offices have been established in Los Angeles and Tucson.
