Show CHARGES AGAINST PRIESTS DISMISSED New York, Sept. 15. The charges made by Mayor John P. Mltchel against a number of Catholic priests, together with their counter accusa-tlons accusa-tlons against Police Commissioner Arthur Woods, arising out of disclosures disclos-ures last summer of telephone wire tapping by the police, were dismissed today by Supremo Court Justice Greenbaum. Mayor Mltchel read into the records of the legislative investigating committee com-mittee last May a number of conversa- t tlons which the police claimed to have( overheafd. These conversations, alleged al-leged by city officials to have been between Catholic clergymen, formed the basis of charges by the mayor, himself a Catholic, that certain priests and non-Catholic laymen had conspired con-spired to interfere with the conduct of the city government in connection with municipal expenditures by private pri-vate charitable institutions. Tho mayor charged also that perjury had been committed and that an attempt had been made to defeat the ends of justico by promising a witness money to leave the committee's jurisdiction. |
