Show I VERNON WINS FROMBEAVERS Portland Starts Lively But Tigers Take Lead in Fourth and Keep It. Los Angeles, Sept 14. Vernon won out from the Beavers in a slugging contest today by the score of 7 to 5. The visitors showed no signs of the clever ball they had played the day before. Byron Houck and Rip Hag-erman Hag-erman succeeded in holding the Tigers Tig-ers to six hits. The first inning was opened with two runs for Vernon, which they scored on an infield hit, a walk, a sacrifice, and a single to I left by Bates. But Portland came back promptly in the second and slap-jped slap-jped over three tallies. Howard's single, sin-gle, an error and a fielder's choice filled the bases' and thou Williams scored all three with a triple to center, cen-ter, going out himself trying to stretch it into a homer. But in the fourth Vernon took the lead and kept it to the finish of tbo game Daley singled to right and ,came home on a triple to left by Mc-Caffigan, Mc-Caffigan, wbo In turn came home on ,a wild pitch. Hagerman replaced Houck in the fifth, but Vernon scored three more in the sixth and seventh to cinch the game. A couple of bases on balls, a sacrifice fly, an error -and a wild throw gave the home team their runs. Doane opened the seventh witb a single sin-gle to center and went to second on auother by Glelchmann. Kisberg hit Into a double play, sending Doane to third, from where he scored on Ward's error.
