John V Nelson's term ot cffice as custodian of the city hall expired Saturday evening and he vacated va-cated the building for the first time in 21 years He had b?en a faithful employe of the city Tor nearly a quarter of a century, and. in recogni t!on of his constancy, ability and integrity, in-tegrity, in his official laee, the other employes of the city this morning presented pre-sented him with a beautiful gold-headed ebony cane. The presentation w&h made by Commissioner T. S. Browning at 10 o'clock. In the presence of practically practical-ly ill the employes of the city hall. Mr. Browning briefly called attention to the long and praise-worthy service serv-ice given by Colonel Nelson and said that the gift of a cane was an Inade quate expression of the high esteem In which he was held by all who had been aeeoclated with him In the city hall the past 21 years. |
