Show I GROCERS' TRUST IS IN POLITICS. On last Wednesday evening, at a secret meeting of the Grocers' Trubt of Ogden, the secretary of the organization organi-zation was instructed to send out a letter, urging the members to support sup-port the Fusion legislative ticket jn Weber county on representation that the Fusion candidates would resist all efforts to repeal the garnishment law passed by the last legislature. We regret that this organization has seen fit to enter politics, and we - j predict thnt the people will condemn the intrusion. The Grocers Trust is strongly knit together and, we admit, ad-mit, is powerful, but Its very strntff'i ' will be a source of offense to the workingmen and other voters of We-i We-i ber county who look upon the at-' at-' tempt of any 6trong combination to control an election as usurpation of power j This is a contest between the Re-; Re-; publican leglslativo candidates and I those of I he Fusionists, and the two I political forces should he allowed to 'fight out their battles without in-i in-i terference by the local Grocers' com-, com-, bine. j Fersonally we hold the legislative candidates on the Fusion ticket in the highest esteem and know them to ho the very best of citizens and against them we have not a word of criticism, nor do we hold them responsible re-sponsible for this unwarranted activity activ-ity in politics, but wc do resent the partisan action taken in their behalf by the Grocers' Trust, and we hope the people will administer such a rebuke re-buke as will discourage any future intermeddling in-termeddling In politics by that organization. |
